The City and County of Honolulu’s Department of Environmental Services reminds Oahu residents to keep all plastics such as bags, food wrappers, utensils and other non-compostable items out of green carts.
Green carts from across the island are delivered to Hawaiian Earth Recycling in Central Oahu, where yard waste is turned into compost.
Unlike yard waste — tree leaves and branches, weeds, grass clippings, hedge trimmings, etc. — that breaks down, plastic does not.
