Woman pleads guilty to 2nd-degree murder, sentenced to at least 10 years

BUNCOMBE COUNTY, N.C. (WLOS) — On Thursday, Feb. 5, 2026, a woman pleaded guilty to second-degree murder following a 2024 shooting death, the Buncombe County District Attorney’s Office announced in a press release.

The DA’s Office said Jessica Barnes Ferland, 41, was sentenced to an active term of 125 to 157 months, or about 10 to 13 years, in the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction.
