Man ‘tried to kill’ Butler County deputy at scene of fire, sheriff says

BUTLER COUNTY, Ohio (WXIX) – A Butler County Sheriff’s deputy is stable after being stabbed at the scene of a vehicle fire Thursday, Feb. 5, according to Sheriff Richard Jones.

Deputy Mike Farthing responded to a vehicle fire at a home on Myers Road around 12:45 p.m., the sheriff explained.

The fire that prompted the deputy to respond appears to have been set by 41-year-old Phillip Lovely, Sheriff Jone said Thursday…
