HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — A man has been sentenced to 20 year in prison after pleading guilty to attempted murder last year for shooting at Madison County deputies in a 2024 chase.
Robert Vanvoorhis was sentenced to 20 years in an Alabama prison on Thursday by Madison County Circuit Judge Donna S. Pate.
Murder suspect extradited back to DeKalb County following Georgia arrest
Vanvoorhis had been charged with attempted murder, attempting to elude a police officer, felon in possession of a gun, and buying/receiving stolen property in the case. As part of his plea deal, the other charges against Vanvoorhis were dropped.
Vanvoorhis was originally arrested in Feb. 2024 after a police chase that began near the Kings Inn on South Memorial Parkway and ended near Hobbs Island Road. At the time, the Madison County Sheriff’s Office said that Vanvoorhis fired a gun at deputies during the chase…
