Morgan jail inmate charged with escape after changing into street clothes and leaving

A Lacey’s Spring man in jail for theft and drug charges now has been charged with escape after he allegedly changed into street clothes in a Morgan County Jail bathroom Tuesday and walked from the jail along a bike path.

George Michael Echols, 42, already faced charges of first-degree theft and third-degree burglary arising from a January 2025 arrest, as well as unlawful distribution of a controlled substance, arising from an arrest in July. He now faces a second-degree escape charge and remains in the Morgan County Jail in lieu of a $50,000 bond.
