Gov. Lee wants another $25M for nuclear innovation, a big boost to Oak Ridge

Tennessee leaders may soon add $25 million to a fund created in 2023 to recruit and reward nuclear development in the state.

Gov. Bill Lee said Feb. 2 in his final State of the State address he’ll ask the Tennessee General Assembly to consider adding the money to Tennessee’s $70 million nuclear projects fund.

Since the fund was created, the state has announced 14 awards totaling almost $49 million. All but one of the fund’s awards have been marked for organizations or governments operating in East Tennessee, a historic center of nuclear science and industry…
