Federal agents arrested a California man they say tried to cash in on the frantic search for Nancy Guthrie, the missing 84-year-old mother of “Today” show anchor Savannah Guthrie, by sending an alleged Bitcoin ransom demand.
Derrick Callella was arrested Thursday in Hawthorne (Los Angeles County) and charged by criminal complaint with transmitting a demand for ransom in interstate commerce and using a telecommunications device anonymously with the intent to abuse, threaten or harass a person, federal prosecutors said.
The arrest did not solve the central case. Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said investigators still believe Guthrie was taken from her home in the Catalina Foothills area north of Tucson — and they still have no suspects…
