Man arrested for bringing homemade explosive inside Thomas Hospital, police say

FAIRHOPE, Ala. (WALA) – A Baldwin County man is accused of bringing a self-made explosive weapon into Thomas Hospital.

According to Fairhope Police, 62-year-old Jerry Hughes went to Thomas Hospital for medical attention on Dec. 29.

Authorities said once staff got Hughes into a room, they found a self-made shotgun shell that would explode if he threw it.

Investigators said he did not threaten anybody with the weapon…
