MANSFIELD — More than a dozen train cars derailed in Mansfield Thursday morning, four of which landed in a river, according to the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.
Bill Flood, DEEP’s media relations manager, said 14 train cars derailed, and the cars were carrying flammable fuel. Mansfield Fire Chief John Roache said crews were conducting air monitoring and, as of noon, they had not detected any flammable leaks coming from the train cars that contained the fuel.
Connecticut State Police said the incident occurred at 9:22 a.m. State police, along with the state Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection’s Division of Emergency Management and Homeland Security and the state Department of Transportation, responded to the incident.
