Wells Fargo announces another mass layoff at West Des Moines campus

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa — Wells Fargo is laying off dozens more workers at its West Des Moines campus, bringing the total number of employees losing their jobs this year to over 100.

According to the Iowa WARN Notification website, on Wednesday, Wells Fargo notified 49 employees that they’d be laid off in April, bringing the total number of layoffs in 2026 so far to 147. There have been four other rounds of layoffs, not including the recent one.

Iowa bill would ban public school partnerships with libraries

Below is a list of the 2026 layoffs so far:

  • On April 4, 49 employees will be laid off
  • On March 20, 33 employees will be laid off
  • On February 6, 25 employees will be laid off
  • On January 23, 14 employees were laid off
  • On January 2, 26 employees were laid off

A spokesperson for Wells Fargo provided the following statement to WHO 13 about the layoffs:

“We regularly review and adjust staffing levels to align with market conditions and the needs of our businesses. We work hard to identify opportunities in other parts of the company so we can retain as many employees as possible. Where it’s not possible, we provide assistance, such as severance and career consulting.”…
