ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) — A restaurant in Albuquerque that began as a shop for cheese and coffee has been named the best sandwich spot in New Mexico by a travel website. “Cheese and Coffee,” located in downtown and uptown, made the 50 best sandwich shop list on Only In Your State.

The restaurant has been serving sandwiches, soups, and salads for over a decade. And before that, they sold bulk cheeses and coffee to Albuquerque locals. Their sandwiches still feature plenty of cheese, as well as Boar’s Head meats and local produce.
Their menu has classic items like Reubens and BLTs. There’s also some localized choices, like the ABQ wrap or the Rio Grande, and there’s, of course, plenty of chile available. Each sandwich comes with a choice of soup or salad. Specials are posted on Facebook weekly.

As for how the determinations were made, Only In Your State says it came down to several factors. “When naming the best restaurants, we considered more than just buzz. Popularity, reviews, awards, and of course, reader nominations showed us what diners and experts value, while quality ingredients, flavor, and freshness set the bar high,” Only In Your State stated on its website. “We also factored in accessibility, inclusivity, affordability, hours, and overall value. Finally, we highlighted innovation and creativity, rewarding spots that deliver something distinctive while honoring their culinary roots.”…
