Hawaiian Electric prepares for power outages prior to strong storm

HONOLULU (KHON2) — Severe weather such as thunderstorms and strong winds are in the forecast for this upcoming weekend, and Hawaiian Electric said that they will prepare their crews for the intense weather.

On Feb. 2, tens of thousands of Hawaiian Electric customers lost power during strong winds. In an effort to prevent a similar fate, electric crews will be on standby to address concerns.

Hawaiian Electric said that they should not be the only ones preparing; customers should also be prepared in the event that they lose power.

“We urge our customers to complete their preparations and make safety their highest priority,” Senior Vice President and Chief Operations Officer Jim Alberts said. “And we thank our customers in advance for their patience. We understand many families may have parties and events scheduled this weekend. Please know that we’ll be out in force as soon as it’s safe to work.”…
