Update, 2 p.m.: Clarksville Fire Rescue says it has seen an increase in calls today related to falls or assistance due to ice. “We want to remind our community that the dangerous, icy conditions have not completely disappeared yet,” CFR reported.
“Freezing temperatures have turned driveways, sidewalks, parking lots, and even yards into ice skating rinks. If you are out and about, please stay safe.”
CFR offered these tips:
- Walk like a penguin: Keep your center of gravity over your front leg. Take short, shuffling steps and keep your feet pointed slightly outward.
- Hands out of pockets: You need your arms for balance. Keep them free to help you steady yourself if you hit a slick spot.
- Assume everything is Icy: Treat every “wet” looking spot as potential ice.
