MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WIAT) — Changes could be coming for people who receive food assistance in Alabama.
The Senate Finance and Taxation Committee passed a bill Wednesday that changes what foods can be purchased. The bill would remove candy and soda from the list of items that can be bought using food assistance. That includes chocolate bars, chewing gum and drinks with cane sugar.
