Extreme drought expands across the Gulf Coast

FORT MYERS, Fla. — The drought monitor was updated Thursday morning, and conditions have worsened across parts of the Gulf Coast. Extreme drought is now present across all of DeSoto County and a portion of northern Charlotte County. That includes Punta Gorda, Port Charlotte, and Arcadia.

As for the rest of the Gulf Coast, severe drought conditions hold on for everyone except parts of southern Collier County.

The drought monitor gets updated every Thursday morning with data through Tuesday.
