Students bring heat to ICE

Last Friday, hundreds of Sonoma County high school students walked out, protesting ICE presence in the area. At Credo High School, students poured from their classrooms, led by seniors Amanda King, Elka Seward-Katzmiller, Alima Koniak, Olive Soriano, and Satya Roth. Credo and Technology High School students met at the Cotati SMART train station chanting, “we want ICE off our streets, we want justice, we want peace!” Signs read, “EDUCATION NOT DEPORTATION,” “ICE Under Pressure,” and “We Skipped Our Lessons to Teach You One.”

Soon the event turned multigenerational. As cars drove past, honking their horns, Sonoma County high school students were joined by their teachers, parents, and elderly. The students state that their goal is indefinite suspension of ICE funding, and investigation into ICE agents and officials involved in shootings, unjustified arrests, and excessive use of force…
