SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — A judge set new deadlines Wednesday in the Oglethorpe Mall shooting case, as attorneys said key forensic evidence is still outstanding and the case is not yet ready to move forward.
Six defendants charged in connection with the July 2 shooting appeared in Chatham County Superior Court for a pretrial status hearing. A grand jury has indicted them on a total of 71 charges, including felony murder, after a bystander later died from heart complications.
During the trial docket call, prosecutors and defense attorneys told Judge John Morse they are still waiting on critical evidence needed to prepare the case.
