Affidavit: Former Travis County Tax Office employees tied to alleged registration fraud scheme

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Two former employees in the Travis County Tax Office and an outside coordinator are under criminal investigation for an alleged fraud‑for‑profit vehicle registration scheme that bypassed inspection and emissions requirements, according to an affidavit obtained by KXAN.

The affidavit alleges the scheme exploited county‑issued login credentials to the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles Registration and Titling System (RTS), enabling numerous fraudulent transactions and the unauthorized removal of plates and documents for paying customers.
