Greene County Clerk’s Office adds new technology for blind, visually impaired residents

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Greene County Clerk Shane Schoeller is introducing a new technology to assist blind and visually impaired residents at the Greene County Clerk’s Office.

Schoeller announced a partnership with NaviLens and Willard-based Mary’s Braille International on Thursday to help visually impaired residents access government services such as voting, accessing records or any other business at the Clerk’s Office.

NaviLens uses distinctive multi-colored codes, similar to QR codes, for individuals who are blind or have low vision to independently access spaces.

With the free NaviLens or NaviLens GO app, users can point their smartphone in the direction of a multi-colored NaviLens code and get audio information, like directions, distances and details about the location.

The Clerk’s Office says NaviLens can detect the codes from distances up to 50 feet, at wide angles and in any lighting condition without needing to focus the phone camera. The technology can also translate visual signage into audio messages and supports over 40 languages.

“It’s important to me that we prioritize making government services accessible to everyone,” said Shane Schoeller, Greene County Clerk. “Whether citizens are visiting our office to vote, access records, or conduct other business, NaviLens will help ensure they can navigate our facilities independently and with confidence.”…
