Animals and tech ‘spark’ Desert Ridge students in Mesa

As human development expands and wildlife habitats shrink, animals and people are forced into closer, often dangerous contact.

That global reality united students at Desert Ridge High School’s School of Innovation in Mesa during the first annual Sparkathon event recently as students were tasked to come up with a solution that challenges threatened ecosystems worldwide.

Innovators like Jackson Malone, Aiden Burgun, August Ocampo and Mason Walsh won Best Overall Project for their educational video game, “Animal Assistance.” It highlighted the importance of species protection.
