COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — A former Franklin County sheriff’s deputy was sentenced in federal court after pleading guilty to denying an inmate his civil rights.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Southern District of Ohio, Matthew Carey, a former deputy, was sentenced to nearly four years — 46 months — in prison for depriving an inmate of his civil rights.
According to court documents, Carey intentionally disclosed a pretrial detainee’s pending charge of rape of a minor to another pretrial detainee, Gmier McCall. He reportedly did this knowing that disclosing the charge would create a substantial risk that the detainee would be assaulted by others in jail.
