A Project Santa car caught on fire Friday in Southern Pines. The sedan went up in flames on Rothney Avenue shortly before 9:30 a.m.
The female driver was traveling toward U.S. Highway 1 and pulled over when smoke began coming from her car. She flagged down a John Cole’s Plumbing truck and asked him if he had anything to put out the fire. The plumber used the fire extinguisher in his truck to try to help put out the flames.
The Southern Pines Fire Department arrived on scene and extinguished the blaze. Authorities say the cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
