Meta and Western Digital trim 100 South Bay jobs in additional layoffs

Meta Platforms and Western Digital Technologies have both trimmed Bay Area jobs that will affect more than 100 workers in the region, marking a fresh round of layoffs for the still-shaky tech industry.

Social media titan Meta, which owns the Facebook app, disclosed its plans to cut 102 jobs in two South Bay cities, according to a post on the state Employment Development Department website.

Separately, Western Digital Technologies has cut 47 jobs at the data storage company’s headquarters on Great Oaks Parkway in South San Jose, a post on the EDD site shows. Those staffing reductions took place on Jan. 27.

Meta stated that it has decided to cut 52 jobs in Sunnyvale and another 50 positions at or near the company’s headquarters in Menlo Park. Those layoffs are slated to take effect on March 20, the EDD reported…
