MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Light, Gas and Water is resuming non-payment disconnections after temporarily suspending them during late January’s winter weather that knocked out power to hundreds of thousands of Tennesseans and caused utility damage across the state.
A statement from MLGW issued Friday, Feb. 6, said that it is the utility provider’s policy to “not disconnect any residential accounts for non-payment whenever the forecast wind chill factor will be 32 degrees Fahrenheit or below.” Temperatures remained below freezing for consecutive days during the winter storm and the days that followed.
