Man sentenced to 27 years for fatal DUI crash that killed two in Yorktown

YORKTOWN, Va. (WAVY)– Hunter Nelson Arnold was sentenced to 27 years in prison for a crash that killed two people, including a pregnant woman, in April 2025.

Arnold was sentenced following his guilty plea to multiple felony offenses in connection to a fatal DUI crash on Water Street in Yorktown. This crash claimed the lives of 21-year-old James Leslie Stewart of Windsor and 34-year-old Abigail Pedroza Navarro of Williamsburg. Navarro was pregnant at the time of the crash.

The judge presiding over the case imposed the following sentences:

  • DUI – Third Offense within Five Years: 5 years, with 4 years suspended
  • DUI Felony Maiming: 5 years, with 4 years suspended
  • Second-Degree Felony Murder (death of pregnant passenger): 40 years, with 25 years suspended
  • Second-Degree Felony Murder: 40 years, with 30 years suspended

“This was a devastating and entirely preventable tragedy. These sentences reflect the seriousness of repeated impaired driving and the irreversible harm it causes. Everyone deserves the right to get home safely. That did not happen for the victims on April 3rd, 2025.” said Commonwealth’s Attorney Krystyn L.
