Arcadia, California — A Nevada woman who served as a surrogate for a Chinese-born couple is now suing them, alleging she was misled about who she was carrying a child for and what ultimately happened to the baby she delivered. Her lawsuit follows a sweeping child welfare investigation in Southern California that resulted in 21 children being removed from a single household.
Tronderrica James, 30, says she agreed to become a surrogate believing she was helping a couple who wanted to grow their family. Instead, she claims she later learned that the intended parents — Guojun Xuan, 65, and Silvia Zhang, 38 — were at the center of a multi-state investigation involving dozens of surrogate-born children.
Children removed from Arcadia home
In May last year, authorities raided a nine-bedroom home in Arcadia, where investigators found 15 children under the age of three, according to law enforcement records. Six additional children connected to the couple were later located in nearby residences with relatives or acquaintances.
