Buncombe County transitions to new alert system following cyber attack

BUNCOMBE COUNTY, N.C. (WLOS) — Buncombe County is transitioning to a new mass notification system to help improve the county’s ability to send timely emergency alerts and important public safety messages to the community.

According to a news release from the county, this transition follows a “targeted cyberattack in a third-party vendor’s system,’ CodeRED, which the county paid to run Buncombe’s alert notification system, BCAlerts.
