A San Diego man has been ordered to serve seven years in state prison after pleading guilty to assault and domestic-violence charges tied to a Mission Valley motel incident that ended with his girlfriend dead. The victim, 24-year-old Vivian Avila, was found unresponsive in a Hotel Circle North room in the early hours of Jan. 17, 2025. The sentence follows months of court hearings that began after police first arrested the man on suspicion of homicide.
