SAN DIEGO, California — David Gilbert Gomez, a 43-year-old documented gang member from Imperial, California, was sentenced to 87 months in federal prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Gomez, also known as “Choker,” pleaded guilty to the charge, according to court records. The City of Imperial Police Department discovered a semiautomatic firearm in an unoccupied vehicle during a routine traffic stop on March 12, 2024. The firearm, a 9mm Glock with an extended magazine, was reported stolen from Maricopa County, Arizona. A black bag found in the vehicle bore the words “Choker” and “Shelltown,” linking it to Gomez, who fled into a nearby residence when officers arrived.
Federal investigators, including the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), took over the investigation. Gomez admitted to stealing the firearm and was charged with unlawful possession due to his twelve prior felony convictions, which prohibit him from possessing firearms.
