Chicago’s snowplow naming contest buries city in anti-ICE submissions

More than two-thirds of entries in Chicago’s annual snowplow-naming contest this year called for abolishing ICE, with residents flooding the city with anti-immigration-enforcement submissions alongside more standard fare.

Of the 13,318 entries submitted between December 17 and the contest’s close, 9,231 were simply “abolish ice,” according to city records. The first such entry came just 24 minutes after submissions opened, though it was beaten by “ICE Abolisher,” which arrived within nine minutes, and “Ice out of Chi,” which came in after six.

Ultimately, “Abolish Ice” made the cut and is among the 25 finalists announced by the city this week. Voting is open until February 14…
