El Paso City Council defines short-term rental in zoning code

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The El Paso City Council took action on Tuesday, Feb. 3, to formally create a definition for short-term rentals in their zoning code, distinguishing them from bed and breakfast lodging.

The approval of Tuesday’s agenda item is considered a win for El Pasoans who list their properties on short-term rental sites like Airbnb and VRBO.

According to the City of El Paso, a “short-term rental means any residential use, including a single-family home, duplex, an accessory structure, or a unit in an apartment/multifamily residential building, mixed use residential building, or condominium building, or any portion thereof, used for lodging accommodations to occupants for a period of less than 30 consecutive days.”…
