Hinds County prosecutors say they believe they now have a confession from the person responsible for killing Jackson State student Jaylen Burns — a major development in the 2023 case.
Burns, a 21-year-old Jackson State senior, was shot while trying to break up a fight on Oct. 15, 2023, at the University Pointe Apartment Complex during the university’s homecoming weekend. The family of Burns described him as a “unique and inquisitive” person who was able to touch the lives of many people along with those who knew him from his involvement on campus.
On Thursday, Feb. 5, Hinds County District Attorney Jody Owens announced that his office “believes we have a confession” from the person responsible for killing Burns. Owens made the announcement during his 2025 annual report…
