Louise Larsen was 11 years old when her photo appeared in the Nov 15, 1931, edition of The Times-Picayune.
She appeared in the newspaper’s “The Young People’s Paper” section. The photo commemorated Larsen playing the part of a Spanish maiden in a festival at McDonogh 11 School near Canal Street.
The school was demolished in 2021, but it stood less than a mile from Larsen’s home at 426 Manasses Place in the city’s Mid-City area. After a “Curious Louisiana” search through The Times-Picayune’s archives, Larsen was the only person found in a photo on this obscure street…
