On a frigid day in late January, Kim Holt looked over the damage to her 128-year-old home nestled on a corner of Academy Park, a neighborhood just north of Delmar in north St. Louis.
Holt remembers arriving at the home she and her husband, Eli Holt, had spent two years renovating the day after the EF3 tornado ripped a 23-mile path through the area with damage concentrated in north St. Louis. The roof slouched over the side of their home, almost all the windows were shattered, and their dream of retiring in the home was now an uncertainty.
