Wichita students visit seniors to make crafts for Valentine’s Day

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – Students at Wichita’s Honey Tree and Branches Academy visited a senior living residence today to make Valentine crafts.

They call it Senior Buddies. The second and third graders have been visiting the seniors monthly, and it’s created some special bonds.

“We come once a month to Park West Plaza and we do community outreach,” said Holly Wells. “We’re strong in our community and we wanted to get a little bit better at that and get to know people in our community and so we tried doing pen pals and it’s hard to do pen pals now a days because a lot of people can’t write at this age so we decided to do buddy days this year.”

Building connections

“It’s pretty fun the first time we did this I learned a lot about him, me and him were just like, that was probably the best relationship we had all year,” said Harrison Kaufman. “When we first came in it was just like pick a friend pick a buddy and so it was great how they got paired up.”…
