Food shelf project feeds families, teaches thoughtfulness

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Shelves of food fill the entryway inside Robert Frost and Challenge Center Elementary School in Sioux Falls. Each item has been donated by families within the school’s community.

“We placed them on the shelves back here, and we said any family stop in the lobby,” Principal Jaime Bell said. “It’s open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., and take any items you need, no questions asked.”

Principal Bell first noticed the need for a project like this one last November.

“Some parents just reached out from Robert Frost and Challenge Center just wanting to help families in our community saying SNAP benefits kind of went on a freeze and how can we help families?” Bell said…
