Roads closed, thousands without power as strong winds down trees and power lines

NORTH CAROLINA (FOX Carolina) – High winds reported in western North Carolina have led to numerous downed trees and power lines.

A High Wind Advisory has been issued for Buncombe, Jackson, Transylvania, McDowell, Rutherford and Polk counties until 7 p.m. on Saturday

As of 10:50 a.m., the Duke Energy outage map shows the following western North Carolina counties have several power outages:

  • Buncombe County: 2,628 customers without power
  • Henderson County: 339 customers without power
  • McDowell County: 1,331 customers without power
  • Polk County: 411 customers without power
  • Rutherford County: 1,210 customers without power
