Columbia, S.C. (WACH) — A Midlands mother whose daughter was killed in a domestic dispute is urging South Carolina lawmakers to consider a statewide registry that would track repeat domestic violence offenders, even if their crimes occurred in other states.
Dr. Ameena Ali says the proposed legislation, which she calls Kiyah’s Law, is meant to prevent other families from experiencing the loss she endured when her 30-year-old daughter, Zakiyah Ali, was shot and killed in September 2025.
According to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department, Zakiyah Ali was fatally shot by 33-year-old Jerry Williams during an argument on Two Notch Road on Sept. 14. Authorities say Williams and Ali were in a relationship at the time. Williams has since been charged in connection with her death…
