HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) — Dauphin County leaders are exploring a potential sale of the county’s main administrative building in downtown Harrisburg, abc27 News learned Friday.
The idea of a what’s known as a sale-leaseback — through which the county would sell the building to another entity for a large amount of money and then become a tenant paying smaller amounts of rent to occupy the space for many years — is preliminary and just one possibility among others to balance the budget without significantly raising taxes or cutting services, the leaders cautioned.
News of the possible sale first emerged during an interview with Nick DiFrancesco (R), the county treasurer, who opposes the plan as well as an already-public debt restructuring plan to borrow money and pay it back, with interest, over a period of two decades.
