John DeMay joins vigil with parents demanding accountability from social media companies

LOS ANGELES, California (WJMN/WBUP) — Parents whose children have died from harm on social media gathered outside a California courthouse Thursday as part of a vigil demanding accountability from big tech companies.

Among the participants was John DeMay, father of Marquette teen Jordan DeMay, who died in 2022 as the result of a sextortion scheme.

“Jordan was about seven weeks from turning 18. He was a school sport athlete, honor roll student, Prom King – just an extremely well-mannered, well-adjusted…loved life, happy, loved dancing, and making people smile. Just a really, really great kid,” John DeMay told the Associated Press at the scene. “Kind of cliche, but he really was an all-American kid who was just such a great young man and ready to step into the next phase of life and adulthood and go to that next place and unfortunately that was taken from me.”…
