Stockton honors an original ‘Rosie the Riveter’ on her 100th birthday

(FOX40.COM) — Stockton celebrated a living piece of American history on Friday, honoring Joyce Schramek, one of the original “Rosie the Riveters,” as she turned 100 years old.

Surrounded by roses, cake, family, and friends dressed in red bandanas, Schramek was celebrated not only for her milestone birthday but for the role she played during World War II. During that time, women stepped into industrial jobs and helped keep the country running while men were away fighting overseas.
