Half-cent sales tax generates more than $15 million for St. Lucie infrastructure

ST. LUCIE COUNTY — The 2018 voter-approved half-cent sales tax initiative continues to improve road safety, add sidewalks, and clean rivers in St. Lucie County.

Developments and accomplishments from Oct. 1, 2024, to Sept. 30, 2025, are now available in the Infrastructure Surtax Citizens Oversight Committee annual report, which was presented to the St. Lucie County Board of County Commissioners regular meeting on Jan. 27. This report marks the seventh fiscal year since the measure was introduced.

“During this fiscal year, the Infrastructure Surtax generated over $15.5 million, with contributions coming from residents, visitors and tourists alike. These funds supported 53 completed projects, with 37 additional projects underway or planned, representing a total investment of over $88 million in community infrastructure across St. Lucie County,” said resident Ken Kroll, who serves as the chair of the Infrastructure Citizens Oversight Committee (ISCOC). “Based on our comprehensive review, the ISCOC affirms that surtax proceeds for FY 2024–2025 were expended in full compliance with Florida Statutes, the approved ballot language, and the commissioner-approved 2018 10-Year Infrastructure Plan.”…
