Alabama lawmakers approve $800,000 for lawyers to defend prison guards accused of brutality

An Alabama legislative committee Thursday approved contracts worth $800,000 with four law firms to defend Alabama Department of Corrections staff and corrections officers in civil lawsuits filed by people who have been incarcerated and their families.

Members of the Joint Legislative Contract Review Committee approved the awarded contracts without discussion.

The committee approved two individual contracts, each for two years for $200,000, to Albert L. Jordan, Esq. of Wallace, Jordan, Ratliff & Brandt, based out of Birmingham, and Terri O.
