Small bar, serious wine: Bar Chinchilla is downtown St. Pete’s intoxicating star

Bar Chinchilla has long been an I Love the Burg favorite, a cozy and intimate space tucked into 439 1st Ave N. It’s the kind of bar you can count on for a great pour, because they have a carefully curated selection of craft beer and good wine.

It touts itself as “the smallest bar in St. Pete,” but this tiny bar is proving that limited square footage doesn’t mean limited ambition. This season, Bar Chinchilla is rolling out some fantastic new events and offerings. They include a packed calendar of curated wine tastings, a growing bottle shop, and a brand-new concierge wine buying service designed to make fine wine more accessible.

Wine tastings and new pop-up experiences

Bar Chinchilla will continue to host monthly ticketed wine tastings. Each tasting will either go with the theme or region of the month, or a fun miscellaneous theme of the bar’s choosing.

February is Pinot Month, and here’s the upcoming lineup:

  • February 12: A Valentine’s Day themed Italian wine tasting
  • February 19: An all Pinot tasting in celebration of Pinot Month

But new to the calendar are pop-up wine tastings. These are casual, no-reservation-needed events. For $20, guests can savor guided pours of featured wines. The guides are often the distributors or winemakers themselves…
