Jurors got glimpses into the emotional rollercoaster that played out after 2-year-old Nevaeh Liyla Allen was reported missing four years ago.
On the second day of testimony in Lanaya Brittany Cardwell’s juvenile cruelty trial, Thursday, prosecutors played video footage from FBI agents and Baton Rouge Police Department homicide detectives questioning Cardwell and her then-fiance, Phillip Kegan Gardner, about Nevaeh’s disappearance.
The FBI oversaw a search for the toddler that included hundreds of officers from several law enforcement agencies scouring southeastern Louisiana and southern Mississippi. After days of foraging, the search ended tragically Sept. 26, 2021, when authorities found Nevaeh’s body stuffed in a suitcase that was buried in a shallow grave along the Pearl River in a wooded area of Pearlington, Mississippi…
