Green Bay’s inspection division on Feb. 6 directed Safe Haven Pet Sanctuary on Broadway to immediately cease its overnight emergency shelter, saying the cat rescue nonprofit violated downtown zoning laws despite being well-intentioned.
“We understand that providing a warm and safe place for individuals experiencing homelessness – particularly during colder months – comes from a desire to help those in need,” the inspection said. “The intention to offer support is appreciated, however, a homeless shelter, overnight occupancy and indoor activities must comply with applicable zoning, safety, and public health regulations to ensure the wellbeing of all occupants and the surrounding area.”…
