The Acadiana Regional Juvenile Justice District is proposing a new 100-bed regional juvenile detention facility to address rising crime rates across nine parishes, including Allen, Jeff Davis, Acadia, Evangeline, Vermilion, Iberia, St. Martin, St. Mary, and St. Landry.
Kenney Courville, assistant superintendent of schools and Allen Parish representative for the commission, recently updated the Allen Parish Police Jury on the project. He also discussed plans to ask voters in the nine-parish area to approve a sales tax for the facility.
