‘He’s part of our family’: Albuquerque family remembers support of law enforcement after their mother’s murder

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – It has been 10 years since an Albuquerque woman was murdered in a violent home invasion while on vacation in Arizona. KRQE News 13 spoke to her daughter, who is honoring her mother and those who helped her family in their darkest days.

In February 2016, 75-year-old Ruth Schwed of Albuquerque was visiting her friend Barbara Leslie in Surprise, Arizona. But as they had their morning coffee, something horrific happened. “And it was very strange because none of us heard from her and we couldn’t get a hold of her,” said Schwed’s daughter, Robin Brulé.

Back in Albuquerque, Schwed’s daughter Robin Brule and her siblings were growing concerned. Then her brother noticed some unusual credit card charges and thought she had been a victim of identity theft. “And he didn’t wanna tell her because he was afraid he was gonna ruin her vacation. So we’re still in the mind that everything was okay and that these were not connected. And by the next day, we didn’t hear from her. We knew something was drastically wrong,” said Brulé…
