Roundabout Espresso: From Gas Pumps to Coffee Cups

Just off the roundabout in Steilacoom near the ferry landing to Anderson Island is a decades-old building that once served as a gas station. Today, it’s home to Roundabout Espresso, a business that’s as much a café as a community gathering place serving up both coffee and nostalgia.

In fact, co-owner Joe Brown, who operates the shop with wife, DeAnna, and daughter Camryn, grew up not far from his business’s digs, which once housed Jim’s Auto. His frequent childhood visits, often with friends, are still fresh in his mind.

“We’d come here and dig up inner tubes, patch them, and launch off the dock into the water. So fun,” he recalled recently…
