UT Medical Center offers new minimally invasive procedure for high blood pressure

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – UT Medical Center is now offering a new minimally invasive procedure for some high blood pressure patients. It’s called the “Simplicity Blood Pressure Procedure.”

The catheter procedure is for certain patients whose blood pressure remains high even with medication and lifestyle changes. UT Medical Center says it targets overactive nerves near the kidneys that can contribute to high blood pressure. It’s done with mild sedation and leaves no implant behind.

“As we look to improve how we care for patients with hypertension, UT Medical is focused on responsibly integrating innovative technologies that meet the needs of our community,” said Dr. Raj Baljepally, an interventional cardiologist at UT Medical. “High blood pressure remains a significant global health challenge. While medications and lifestyle changes are effective for many patients, a substantial number still struggle to achieve control.”…
